Smriti Biswas Narang Dies: Well-known actress of Hindi, Marathi and Bengali films, Smriti Biswas has passed away. The actress breathed her last at the age of 100. She died at her home in Nashik city of Maharashtra on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. Filmmaker Hansal Mehta has paid tribute to her.

Smriti had shifted from Mumbai to Nashik 28 years ago to live with her Christian missionary sister. She struggled with poverty in her last days. The actress, who started her film career in 1930, worked in many good films till the 1960s. These include films like ‘Nek Dil’, ‘Aparajita’ and ‘Modern Girl’.

Debut as a child artist
Smriti Biswas started her career as a child artist. She debuted with the Bengali film Sandhya and after that appeared in many films. The actress worked with many legendary film makers including names like Guru Dutt, V Shantaram, Mrinal Sen, Bimal Roy, BR Chopra and Raj Kapoor.

Smriti worked in films with many legendary actors. She appeared on screen with Dev Anand, Kishore Kumar and Balraj Sahni. She was last seen in the Hindi film Model Girl (1960). After this, she married film maker SD Narang and said goodbye to acting. Smriti has two sons, Rajiv and Satyajit.
